well, i don't like the phrase "horrible taste in music." musical preferences are relative -- some people like folk, others like country, others like death metal, and while none of those genres particularly appeal to me, it doesn't make their taste "horrible" by any stretch.

could i spend the rest of my life with someone who had different musical tastes than me? absolutely. i think it broadens your horizons.

and you all know i love to share music with people. :)

i was dying to see sondre lerche and i did.

yes, i would be willing to travel to another city or state just to see him. we drove to cleveland, ohio (i live in michigan) for his concert and it was wonderful. i would happily pay for the gas for another six hour trip to see him again. ♥

i think i'm a little bit in love with him, too. idek.

five days.

that's how long it took to completely go head over for sondre lerche.

how can he be talented and quirky and that freaking adorable all at the same time?

i want to wrap him up in a blanket and feed him homemade macaroni and cheese.

i want to send him and his wife (whose name is mona adjladkj) fertility drug-laced brownies so there'll be adorable, quirky little lerche babies all over the place.

it's so unfair.

five days.

i think i've got an inordinate amount of oxytocin in my system. or idk...something.

i'm too old for this nonsense.

rules: using only song names from ONE ARTIST, answer these questions. you can't use the band or artist i used. try not to repeat a song title.

my life according to... )
sexyscholar: (DC - DO NOT WANT)
The cover art for The Shins' "Wincing The Night Away" made my skin crawl so badly that I had to change it to a photo of the band so it wouldn't come up on my iPod.

(It even hurt to make that link. UGH.)

I love the music though. Yesh.
sexyscholar: (Stan - Dance. Dance. Dance.)
I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] ack_attack to do this. But I prolly would have done it anyway, even if she hadn't.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.

01. Spider's Stratagem - Dead Can Dance

I have my dear [livejournal.com profile] thrihyrne to thank for this one. It's one of the sexiest songs I've ever heard. Period.

02. Are You Gonna Be My Girl? - JET

Love, love, love this song. I loved it the first time I heard it which was FIVE YEARS AGO. It's one of those songs that you hear and makes you go "GODDAMMIT YES." A-One.

03. Lights On - The Pierces

I'd only heard of The Pierces just recently from someone on my flist, so I thought I'd give them a shot. The first time I listened to the album, it kind of passed me by, like background music. But I put my iTunes library on shuffle one morning, and "Lights On" was the first song that came up. The song made me feel a little randy, to be honest, and I listened to it a good 4, 5, 6, 12, 17 times. Really. I love it that much.

04. Again & Again - The Bird & The Bee

This is such a sweet-sounding song. About having an undeniable and unrelenting sexual attraction to someone you hate. It's so Ron/Draco that it makes me a little (more) nuts.

05. Plane - Jason Mraz

Who would I be if I didn't have a Jason Mraz song in the list? The man owns my life, mmkay? This song makes me cry. Every. Time. I. Hear. It. It's gorgeous and heartfelt and...GAH. Just listen to it.

06. I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor - Arctic Monkeys

Every now and then, I need a little punkish music in my life, but "Dancefloor" stays on my playlist. It's another one that rather pop-ish, but with that "grr" bite that I need. The drums and guitars are awesome, and it makes me want to play Rock Band.

07. The Magic Position - Patrick Wolf

I'm in love with Patrick Wolf right now. I can't convey to you how much. He has this gorgeous baritone voice, and when sung over this incredibly poppy tune, it's like...well, magic. I listen to this song, and I find myself bouncing in time to the music. Really. I love him.

It was really hard to limit this list to seven. :p
sexyscholar: (Draco - Wandpoint)
Tom Felton is on iTunes.

I just keep thinking, "Omg, that's so cute. Lookit him on iTunes. Awwwwww."

Hello lovely flist!

I'm looking for music recommendations. I've got an iTunes card and I'm dying to use it.

What are you all listening to out there? What's tickling your fancy (or whatever else you like to have tickled)?

Right now, I'm kind of obsessed with The Pierces, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] andbeloved, but I'll listen to just about anything twice. Also on heavy rotation is Jason Mraz, Tori Amos, Bjork, Gnarls Barkley, Kanye West & Beyonce' (who knew?)

So, recommenz me some artists and tell me why you like them so much. Please? &hearts
sexyscholar: (She's got a new microphone.)
Every few months or so, the gods of music see fit to thrust some new-to-me artist in my face so that I can totally fall in love with him or her.

This time around, the artist is James Morrison.

OMGWOW. This man's voice is just...omg. He's only 22, but he's got this voice...rich and thoughtful, with a little bit of tortured soul thrown in for good measure.

He's just killing me. And of course, it doesn't hurt that he's...*swoon* really, really cute. No. Really.

WOW.

In case you've never heard of him, here are a couple of his songs...

The Letter
Wonderful World
You Give Me Something -- my personal favourite; it brings me to tears.
sexyscholar: (My Babies)
Once upon a time, my son had led me to believe that he would one day be Mr. Beyonce Knowles...

...BUT NO MORE!

Now, my friends, he seems to be enamoured with the lovely Annie Lennox. Yes. Annie Lennox.

Oh yeah. He could totally win Annie. Playa. With cake.

His particular favourites are "There Must Be An Angel," "Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves" and "Sweet Dreams..."

So, I do a lot of YouTube surfing to scroll up videos for him to watch. I found "Walking On Broken Glass" for his viewing pleasure...and did you know that Hugh Laurie was in this video? I sure as hell didn't. I mean, I knew John Malkovich was in it, but HUGH? That's one hell of a happy video.
sexyscholar: (She's got a new microphone.)
I think I want to like Amy Winehouse, but I'm not quite sure yet.

sniff me out like i was tanqueray... )
sexyscholar: (Jason Mraz)
I'm kind of seriously in love with Jason Mraz a little bit.

He managed to work the word lugubrious into a song, and that impresses me so hard. So much so that I played some of his stuff for [livejournal.com profile] mightyafrodite and she bought two of his albums. Like, on the spot.

Plus, you just can't go wrong with lyrics like this:

and everyone might find it foolish
to not be counting on the sun
but your mouth is my umbrella now
and I'm holding your tongue

from "The Forecast"

*melts*

Jamie Lidell - A Little Bit More

This song is pwning my life right now. I swear I can feel it all the way in my... nevermind.

Anyway. You might recognise it as the song used in the current Target commercial campaign.

Thought I'd share.
sexyscholar: (Pharrell)
So I totallly stole this from [livejournal.com profile] ryl. I even took her name for it, because it's made of WIN.

Here's the deal:

Grab the first 30 songs (w/lyrics) from random play through your collection, post the first line(s) of each, cross them out as people guess.

Lalalalalalalala means I love you. )

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your livejournal along with your 7 songs. Then tag 4 other people to see what they're listening to.

1. Junior Senior - We R The Handclaps

2. The Fray - Over My Head (Cable Car)

3. The Rolling Stones - Miss You (Dr. Dre Remix 2002)

4. Ben Folds - Rockin' The Suburbs

5. Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

6. Beck - Clap Hands

7. Sergio Mendes - That Heat (Feat. Erykah Badu and will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas)

I'd love to see what you're listening to, if you're so inclined.
sexyscholar: (Remus/Sirius - Pratically canon.)
So far, I've only had two of these. People keep telling me they're "normal." They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.

Anyway. The first one I had several weeks ago. I dreamt that I'd given birth to Ky -- labor went well and everything. He came out an average-sized newborn, but while the nurses were cleaning him up, he grew up to be, like, 3 years old. Nobody seemed to think this was odd but me.

The most recent preggo dream I had last night. We were at a party, or something, because there were people everywhere. I was very close to my due date, I think. Went to rub my stomach and felt a foot. Not thru the skin, mind you, but actually sticking out of my stomach. O_o

I touched his foot, and it twitched. I'd tickled him.

So I go over to [livejournal.com profile] fmh, who's reading a book (not surprising for him, mind you, to be at a party and have a book with him). I put his hand on the baby's foot and he just nods and mumbles, "mhmm" and keeps reading his book. o_O

I figure (don't ask me why) that this must be normal. Otherwise, he'd have panicked, right? Right.

So I start walking, and I head down a hallway with paintings. And Ky is talking to me thru my stomach. Apparently he can see too, because he asks me who did a particular painting. I tell him that Grandpa did that one.

Neither [livejournal.com profile] fmh's dad nor mine are particularly artistically inclined, so it must have been part of some kind of therapy.

Weirdness.

If you like Motown, you should look for "Motown Remixed." My dad brought it to my attention the other day, and I've been listening to it ever since. The DJ Smash remix of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" by Stevie Wonder is...wow. The Hotsnax remix of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' "Tears of a Clown" is no slouch either. Yeah. Check it out if you have the opportunity.

I'm always late on these things, but I just found out about the [livejournal.com profile] potterpuffs. Cutest thing evar. Honest.

Edit: Dumbledore-Puff is the cutest thing ever. Thought I'd clarify that.

I hope everyone had a decent weekend. Cheers!
