Hoku gave me a lovely keepsake box that she made herself, and inside were an absolutely lovely pair of silvery teardrop earrings which I have already put on to wear to work today.
JEWELRY IS ALWAYS AWESOME.
And lookit what Malu made for my birthday:

The ever-lovelystuckinsea gave me a dozen long-stemmed virtual roses which I must save because LJ deletes them after a time (I've saved every gift she's ever given me), and thrihyrne has written me delicious R/D fic that made me more than a little regretful that I have to leave my hubby and go to work. ;)
All told, it's been a good birthday so far. And I've only been up for 3 1/2 hours!

Are you gonna be Kieran's girl?

I really didn't expect that many people to be paying attention, srsly, but I'm thrilled that you took a second to congratulate us. My flist is so amazingly dazzling.
My due date is February 26, which doesn't tell us jack shit about when it'll actually get here, lol.
So far, this pregnancy has been a little rougher than when I was carrying Kieran. With him, I only got sick once, and that was because I hadn't taken the time to eat before I left for work. This time around, I'm constantly on the verge of being sick, but never actually getting there, which is pretty goddamned annoying. That and the holy-fuck-I'm-tired, of course. BUT. I only have about two weeks left in my first trimester, so with a little luck, the sick and tired will begin to ebb soon.
fmh and I are kind of hoping for a girl this time, since we already have a son. Of course, we'll love he/she/it to pieces whatever it happens to be.
The girls are THRILLED. Hoku's always hugging me and kissing my stomach, and Malu is constantly putting her ear up to my belly -- she swears that she can hear the heartbeat. "Honey," I tell her, "at this point, you're just hearing my stomach rumbling. Again." I'm just really glad that they're happy about having another sibling. Kieran's too young to care one way or the other, I think.

Mar. 12th, 2008 07:52 pmWe went to Hoku's parent-teacher conference tonight. She's brilliant, of course. Her social studies came out to tell us how bright and mature she is. My goodness, the BEAMING.
Her goal is to get a 4.0 for the next marking period. Her advisory teacher thinks that she well within her reach of making it happen.
AWESOME.

The Cast Iron Gut of a Two-Year Old

My son. He's got a cast-iron gut, see?
Hoku had to do a science project for her class: make a theme park model using six simple machines (wheel and axle, pulley, lever, wedge, screw and inclined plane). The project is a collective effort, even my dad got in on the fun and made the pulley attraction.
So. Kieran, from the get-go, had a special affinity for the wheel and axle demonstration -- a ferris wheel made from a thread spool, toothpicks and marshmallows. There was much "nokieranstopdonttouchthat." He liked to watch it spin, and he liked the marshmallows.
He REALLY liked the marshmallows.
Anyhoo. Project gets turned in. Hoku gets A+++++++++. We all go YAY. Hoku decides that since she's got her A+++++++++++, she's not worried about the project anymore. So Husband lets Kieran play with the park. Kieran enjoys the park. Yay.
This morning, Husband notices the ferris wheel has been the tragic victim of KIERAN SMASH. The spool is still there, along with a pile of toothpicks.
But like the spoon, there is no marshmallow.
We are left to assume that Kieran has EATEN THOSE 17864924869 DAY-OLD MARSHMALLOWS.
And he has had no side effects. Of course we'll keep an eye on him, but still.

Some kind of really nasty stomach bug has now officially gone through (quite literally) all of the kids.
It started with Malu, who was nauseous for the entirety of Christmas Eve. She was better the next day and back to her normal hurricane self the day after that.
When it grabbed hold of Hoku. Hers was a much worse case -- throwing up everything she tried to keep down and an added bonus of diarrhea. You know. For fun. She was feeling better the next day as well.
Today it's hit Kieran. I got the call at work that he can't keep anything down, not even water. They've already left to take him to the doctor. With Hoku, we were able to ease her symptoms with Pepto and Immodium AD, but you can't give that stuff to a two-year-old.
And when Kieran throws up now, it's not like when he was a wee baby and could care less. Now he cries everytime he does it. :(

Xmas Swag: Pt. Une et Deux
Dec. 24th, 2007 06:54 pmA few days ago, the girls got their Christmas gifts from their mom, cyriael; and then fmh parents made the trek down to spend part of Christmas Eve with us since we couldn't make it up there this year and dropped off gifts for the kids.
Some of the stuff they've gotten already:
-Fly Fusion Pen
-Nintendo DS
-Animal Crossing
-NintenDogs
-Brand new coats
-A "Go Diego Go" 5-piece room in a box set
-Pokemon Red, Green, Fuschia, Saffron, and whatever the hell other colours they come in.
That's not all of it. And it's not even Christmas Day.
fmh and I got a new digital camera. (!!!) We suck because we didn't have one before now.
And.
I GOT AN IPOD NANO sfhala;;lksdjaslda;sd!
It's so cute I can't stand it. WHEE!
The downside of the day is that Malu has been sick for most of it: she's been nauseous and tired all day. We're keeping plenty of liquids in her and making her lay down. Hopefully she'll feel better by tomorrow. :(

The local middle and high schools in our city have a joint Christmas parade every year, and this year, they asked some of the sixth graders to join them for the march.
Hoku was one of the kids asked to participate. XD
( They played 'Jingle Bells' elebbenty-lebben times. )
