Something just. IDK. Reid gives me the impression of a guy who hasn't had a lot of relationships -- maybe a fling or two, but nothing serious. Most people are put off by his attitude, so that's been kind of his shield, y'know? But Luke is such a persistent brat - he won't leave Reid alone and he won't take his shit, he just gives it right back. Reid respects that (in spite of himself) and it's opening him up.
PLUS. Luke is super-cute and already OUT, which probably goes a long way with Reid. He wouldn't have the patience to deal with a man who was still struggling with his sexuality.
I LOVE THIS PAIRING SO FUCKING MUCH I CAN'T EVEN.

So that's why he acts that way. Like he was probably always smart, and never really had a problem until maybe college? With all the stuffy, hard crumudgeoned old professors in med school. Maybe he was cheated on and then just threw himself into work after that. IDK... I WANT A FREAKING BACK STORY!!! MUST HAVE!!!
