why do PWPs get kind of a bad rap? i'm guilty of it myself, i'll admit. i'm always saying, anytime i write a new one, that it seems to be the only thing i can write, in a self-disparaging/deprecating tone.

sure, i know i have worthy plot in me somewhere, and the moment it decides to manifest itself is one that i look forward to with great hope.

but for now, i'll write porn, and i'm not going to beat myself up about it. because -- and i'm not a braggadocious person AT ALL -- but i think i can write some pretty hot goddamned sex, and i should be proud of it.

i don't know why i said all that, and this post may very well disappear tomorrow. i'm tired, and i should probably go to bed.

after i serve up my kabobs in cafe' world first. :p

I admire people who can write PWP, seriously. Because I can't write one to save my life lol I just run out of words!

I think the bad rap is from people who want a long read and plot (makes you wonder why they're even looking at PWPs in the first place when the warnings are pretty clear at the very start). For me, reading PWPs is relaxing, a breath of fresh air from the others since the fics I tend to read are ones I can have a long sit down to.

And we are more than happy that you do... And yes you write some pretty hot smex!

You should always do what you enjoy and what you do best. The only opinion that really matters - ultimately is yours!

I'm right with you, bb.

Honestly, I think there's two reasons. Some folks are uncomfortable with sex, and PWP probably doesn't allow them to avoid it. Still others might find it exciting and are either ashamed, or simply don't want to admit it. Then, of course, you have those folks that are intellectual snobs, and they'll argue that there is no high-brow content and, therefore, isn't worthy of being written or read.

Personally, I'm all for it!

Edit: so that means there are three reasons. :p

Oh, I know you're for it, you smut-lover you. And! :points finger: You're such a dirty, dirty muse!

Healer!Ron/Injured!Draco?!

kjlfkjs;ldfkjslkjdflskdfj;lsaj

Healer!Ron is a huge kink of mine ever since reading my dear [livejournal.com profile] thrihyrne's "Magic Immunity" and the series that followed.

Dammit, I want to write that. :prays:

As far as the Dron fic goes, I'm a much better muse...I haven't really gotten into writing it myself. It's probably because there's such an established...culture around the pairing, and I don't know if I'd be able to do it justice. It's also because my writing process is so disorganized, I have been psyching myself out of writing more...go figure...

You write steaming hot pron and that is sooo bloody difficult. It's what I find most difficult. The rest of it comes fairly easily, but when I'm writing a fic with a sex scene in it, then that's always the bit I write last. There are so many ways to get it wrong. You always get it right.

Anyway, you do have plot and great characterisation and dialogue. The smex is descriptive and it's all clear and visual. You could use all those elements to describe something different but (luckily for us) you also have dirty, horny plot bunnies! Yay!

I don't know why pwps don't always get the kudos they deserve. It's probably embarrassment.

It's interesting how certain concepts come naturally in writing, while we seem to struggle over others. Writing porn has always been easy for me -- I usually think of that first, and then try to build a story around it.

I can think of plots fairly easily as well...it's writing them and making it all mesh together that give me trouble. :(

:preens:

Thank you, BB. I try my best to get the characterizations right. It drives me nuts when I read fanfiction and the writer has completely changed the core character just to make them fit into whatever story they're telling (i.e. Draco suddenly being a nice guy and realizing that Harry is his TWOO LUV. UGH, DO NOT WANT.). I read it thinking things like, "This is not what Draco would say AT ALL," or "Gah, why have you made Ron such a sucky baby about everything?"

but (luckily for us) you also have dirty, horny plot bunnies!

I do. Those little buggers work overtime, I swear. As you know, I managed to talk myself into some R/D alley!sex, so I think I'm going to have to write a smutty drabble about it. :p

Firstly: I'm laughing at your icon. I love that about you.
Secondly: I got a random card at my fave card shop last weekend and I'm sending it to you. ♥
Thirdly: do PWPs get a bad rap? I think that most of us who write NC-17 fics on a regular basis find ourselves going back to well-written, scorching, sensual, slick, rutting, greedy PWPs for inspiration.

Or perhaps that's just me.

You do write hot goddamned sex, and even if you're not overtly proud of it, surely you know that it's produced DPS time and time again.

And not just for me, baybee. :)

Plot is lovely, characterization is lovely, exquisite wordcraft makes my razor-thin ego quail and shatter. Like you, I've been told that I can write some hot sex, and that pleases me. Beyond the unintentional double entendre caused by it being late, and I was totally posting to your LJ to say that I was having a celebratory viewing of Jed/Oli, and I'll not go into detail about that since this isn't a locked post.

Please put down the beating stick. Those hands could be doing other things, like typing up sexy prose that increases my heart rate.

OH HAI, CAL. :drools: Very fitting model and pose you've found there!

I'm laughing at your icon. I love that about you.

Isn't it great? Nngh, I love Labyrinth. We watched it at our last "Ladies' Night" and we fangirled and fapped all over it. Sadly, there's no one I'd want to ship Jareth with except himself. Oooh. Jareth/Jareth. :shivers:

Yay! I love getting mail from you! Which reminds me, I really need to write you a letter. Things have just been so busy since the move, I've barely had time to do anything. Not bad busy, mind, just busy. :)

I've noticed that PWPs do get picked on a bit -- surprisingly more often than not by the people that write them. Like me. :) What prompted this post was a header for a...I think it was a Merlin/Arthur PWP, and the writer was sort of putting herself down because she hadn't written something more "substantial." I started thinking, "I do that. Why do I do that?" Hence the post.

:beams: I do! And it strokes my ego that people enjoy it, a few to the point where they ask me to write things specifically for them.

Oh. You should email me about your celebratory viewing. :waggles eyebrows:

Yes, Mistress! XD

Isn't it just so him?? The model is the fabulous red-haired Danila Polyakov, but I played with the hue in Photoshop to make him blond. *g*
