why would you call a business with a request for a phone number, and then NOT have something to write the number down with?

i can't get behind that.

Hubby is a reference librarian. He gets all kinds of requests in person and on phone. You have no idea how many times he's been asked to look up numbers and addresses. Anyway, many, many of them call up serveral times asking for the same damn information. He asks, "don't they write it down?"
