A DH-related thought in regards to R/D.

Something I was mulling over on my way to work this morning.



There was a moment in DH that got me thinking that R/D could definitely be workable in canon.

When they're trapped at Malfoy Manor, and Draco is asked to identify the trio -- his answer to whether or not they were who they thought was, 'It might be.'

"It might be?"

Um?

Draco has known Ron for seven years; he knew who he was from the first moment he saw him:

'Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask who you are. My father told all the Weasleys have red hair, freckles, and more children than they can afford.' - PS/SS

He's made a point of teasing and humiliating Ron at every turn, and of course there's the whole 'Weasley is our King' thing. He penned a song, however embarrassing, about Ron -- a song to which he'd hoped to write more verses for, according to him. Granted, he had help writing it -- but I'm certain it was his idea, and his stick-to-itiveness goes a long way. Over the years, he's kind of adopted pet names for Ron as well: Weasel King, Weaslebee, etc. All of which tells me that he's thought about Ron quite a bit.

My point is, he knew who Ron was. There's no way he couldn't. A person he'd devoted that much thought to would be instantly recognisable, regardless of how battered he was.

Now, I know that it could be argued that he didn't give away any of the Trio, opening up the possibility of H/D or D/Hr...but my brain just isn't wired to think that way. :p (Besides, H/D got its fix with the whole escape on the broomstick scene.)

What's important here (lolz) is that Draco knew that it was Ron, and he didn't tell. ♥

Dude. cugami mentioned a scene in SS that I totally don't remember with Ron and Draco fighting during Harry's Quidditch match. So I have to read that again. O_O

I didn't find anything during the match, but I did find this in the chapter after -- "The Mirror of Erised:"

"Would you mind moving out of the way?" came Malfoy's cold drawl from behind them. "Are you trying to earn some extra money, Weasley? Hoping to be gamekeeper yourself when you leave Hogwarts, I suppose -- that hut of Hagrid's must seem like a palace compared to what youre family's used to."

Ron dived at Malfoy just as Snape came up the stairs.

"WEASLEY!"

Ron let go of the front of Malfoy's robes.

And then skip ahead just a bit...

Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle pushed roughly past the tree, scattering needles everywhere and smirking.

"I'll get him," said Ron, grinding his teeth at Malfoy's back, "one of these days, I'll get him--"

Oh my... the seeds really were there.

Was it "Could be" ? O.o I thought he said "Yeah" when Lucius was going "(paraphrase because I can't quote for sure) This is Arthur Weasley's son, isn't he?". I remember Draco was saying he doesn't know Harry, pretty much ignored Hermione and turned his back on Ron when he said "Yeah"..... wait. *goes to get copy*

But the shining R/D moment for me was the punch, strangely enough (probably because it was really that first punch from little Ron all those years ago that made me pair them up in the first place).

Oh God. The punch. I can't...it...that was R/D foreplay, it was.

My friend, thiscantbesoy said that she thought about me when she read that part, and bet that I got all tingly.

And she was right. XD!

Hmm. I'm trying to remember what led me to pair them up.

I don't know that it was one event, but rather a culmination of stuff -- the animosity and teasing and insults...when you're in school, those kinds of things are practically the same as saying, "I think you're really hot, and I want to jump your bones."

I guess if anything, it was the "Weasley is our King" song. To devote that much time and effort into writing a song about someone... he may as well have just KISSED him flat on the mouth.

lol I first noticed them during the Harry Potter Handshake of Choice but there was no impact. It was just a small "oho!" moment that passed by as soon as I went to the next paragraph. And then somewhere later on, Ron and Draco beat the crap out of each other while Harry and the whole school were too busy celebrating his first snitch. Shining moment, that. They definitely came to my radar then.

But later on, much much later... I think it was in book 4 (but I could be wrong, Draco was insulting Ron's mother if I remember it correctly and Ron got fed up). And he punched Draco. R/D was sealed. lol

Rupert needs to make more movies. I mean, I LOVE Ron in all caps. I LOVE Rupert in all caps. But Rupert = not really Ron XDDDD (for one, Ron's damn tall)

And ooh ooh speaking of Rupert and Tom, I really have this feeling those two ended up good friends. They worked on a LOT of things outside of Potterdom movies. Voicing for the games can be a given (but seeing as how DanRad and Emma werent there, I sense this wasn't mandatory for the cast). Then they gave awards together too (I can only remember one but I've seen them together in another awards night, definitely).

I did finally see like a snippet of that on YouTube. Unfortunately, it didn't have the presentation part, just the woman coming out to accept the award and both of them shaking her hand and such. So I was kind of :( about that.

I wish I still had that article with the interview about Tom when he said something about Rupert looking "smashing" in his dress robes. Dammit.

I finally saw "Thunderpants" over the weekend. OMG, that was such a cute movie! And Rupert is just precious in it.

And then of course, my mind went like 20 some years ahead, and Rose and Scorpius (I'm still all LOOOOOOOL over that name!) have fallen in love, and so Ron and Draco have to meet again and try to smile & make nice for their kids at dinner, and you just know that they're fashioning forks into weapons under the table.

It was dropped off in the book that Ron had longer hair now and then later on Draco's receding hairline (oh how the fandom lamented, I bet lol but that's why there's magic). And then the stress on the brand new robes for Rose :DDDDD

I smell tables turning a bit or becoming equal in both ways. Up goes down, down goes up and now they're on level ground. Hoho.

As for Aeon, actually I've been working on turning it into a site (since cugami.com is already working) because of all the separate links which made archiving impossible unless I put it all together. lol Same with Woodgreen and the Myth series. Those 3 AUs I'm definitely going to stick to even if I'm the only one reading left lol
