Driving Lessons

So,
mightyafrodite and I headed out to see "Driving Lessons (DL)" over the weekend.
Before I start in with the Rupertgush, let me say that I thoroughly enjoyed this movie -- and not just because Rupert is in it.
Although we went out there expecting a mediocre flick, we were both pleasantly surprised.
I enjoyed it from start to finish, and normally, I don't care for those coming-of-age/voyage-of-self-discovery type movies. They're so cliche' that they can be painful to watch. DL is cliche' as well, I won't deny it, but in my opinion the performances (chiefly Julie Walters', Laura Linney's and Rupert's) save the movie and make it enjoyable. The fact that Rupert is just so pretty in this movie certainly didn't hurt, either. :)
It features a Ben Folds song in it too. This movie really does love me.
I want the soundtrack.
Another pleasant surprise was that Rupert, besides being hot molten sex, really is a talented actor.
As the HP movies have been the only thing I've seen him in (I haven't seen Thunderpants...yet), I didn't really have a clear idea of him as an actor. I mean, let's face it, as much as I adore the character of Ron Weasley, Movie!Ron isn't all that complicated, is he? Movie!Ron sort of goes like this:
Rupert really shines in DL. There's an ease...a natural-ness about his acting style and he just fits right into the character. It doesn't feel like he's playing Ron Weasley playing Ben Marshall, which is what I was afraid of. I think he has a very promising career as an actor and I hope he continues to get opportunities like this one.
OMG.
OMGOMGOMFG.
Man, I'm getting all yay in my pants just remembering this movie. I don't even know if I can produce coherent thoughts. He's beautiful in this movie. I mean, really.
He was shirtless. He was pale and pink (he looked to have darkish pink nipples, btw) and he looked so bloody smooth I almost couldn't stand it. There was a scene with him in the tub, from the shoulders up...shirtless and wet.
Ben recited Shakespeare. And poems, he recited those too.
Ben smiled, and my heart burst into flower petals and rainbows. No joke. That shit was SERIOUS.
Ben got mad. Several times. He snarled and sneered and growled. And he said "fuck." And he's brilliant at giving eyesex. Really.
There was dancing (Celtic samba...that actually sounded good...FTW?) and a kiss.
And his clothes? Oh my. The suit he wears in the last scene? Take this, and add a darker burgundy jacket. And he swaggered in it. YES.
I died a little many times, and it was wonderful.
Bless you angsty, wet, naked Rupert. Bless you.

*says something funny/witty/sarcastic*
"I'm mad because I'm poor."
"Harry always gets everything." *poutpout*
"I want Hermione, but she's too busy trying to keep Viktor out of her underwear." *poutpoutseethe*
"Malfoy's a slimy git."(Even though we're totally in love/lust with each other. Why do you think we fight so much?)
*is sullen*
*is afeared*
*screams and/or whimpers about spiders/ghosts/Dark Lords/peas/whatever*
*makes WTF? face*
"Bloody hell."

Date: 2006-12-12 01:31 pm (UTC)Not to mention that nasty little tendency to sneak Ron's lines to someone else. Grr.
I agree with you completely.

You and me both. On the way home from the movie (a 30-minute drive, plus stopping for food!), all I did was talk about Rupert -- how talented he is, how great he is in the movie, how pretty he is in the movie...I sounded like I was 12. ;p
