In case you hadn't heard...

sexyscholar...Ky is finally here!
While getting ready to head off to my second non-stress test last Thursday, I notice an unfamiliar trickle go down my leg...hmmm. I called Triage over at U of M to let them know that I thought my water had broken, but seeing as it was first baby and everything is new, I really wasn't sure. They told me to come on in and they would do a test to see if it was the real deal. We headed over, and sure enough, I might as well get comfy, they said, because my water had indeed brokeded and I wasn't going home without a baby.
They got me admitted and in my own room. Things were clockwork. I was contracting, but not dilating, so they gave me a small dose of Pitocin to get the show on the road. Boy, did it ever. I went from, "Well, it hurts but it's not unbearable" to "OMGWTFBBQI'MGONNADIE!" I decided that an epidural was going to be the way to go.
And that's when things went not-so-clockwork.
They gave me the epi, and very shortly after, my blood pressure dropped considerably. So much so that Ky's heartrate dropped from the 120s to the 70s. Nurses and doctors seemed to multiply exponentially as they tried to get his heartrate back up. No good. I heard one of the doctors say, "We need to get her to OR to assess the situation." And we were off. They gave me some godawful medicine to swallow to help prevent nausea (which, ironically, made me feel like I was going to hurl), and it made me feel prickly all over. Once we got into the OR, there was a lot of commotion, and I heard someone say, "It's no good, we have to get this baby out now." Naturally, I panicked. Or I would have if I hadn't already been doped up. They told me that they were going to perform a c-section to get him out because they were worried about his heartrate. I started to cry, and one of the nurses leaned down to me and whispered, "My baby was born the exact same way...everything is going to be fine." They poked and prodded me in a few more places, put the oxygen mask over my face and I felt them pumping the knock-out stuff into the airways. The last thing I remember was them strapping down my legs.
When I came to, I was being wheeled somewhere (later I learned to Recovery). I felt like holy hell. I was cold, shaking, nauseous, angry and scared to death about my baby. My mom told me that Ky was here and he was fine and once we were in the recovery room, I got to see him and fell in love with him immediately.![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
fmh, my mother and mightyafrodite were all there and smiling and I felt better just by their presence. I was still very groggy and out of sorts, so I told the nurses to let fmh feed him by bottle and hopefully I could nurse him later. After a couple of hours, they took us back to my room where Ky and I were poked and prodded at some more.
But that was okay. Cuz he was okay.
They released me from the hospital Sunday morning. I still feel out of sorts, but I'm coming around. Ky is doing really well. He's beautiful (No, really. He is.) and healthy as can be. He's having his first snooze in his crib, andfmh and I are about to watch the episode of Nip/Tuck that I missed. Apparently, it's a dilly.

I'm due in May and already people are bombarding me with terrifying stories about labor and delivery. The thing I'm trying to focus on is that in all of the cases people have told me about, in the end, the baby was fine :) And sometimes really CUTE!
