So.

About 10:30 last night, I started having contractions. They were pretty intense -- coming about 4 to 5 minutes apart, and lasting about 4 minutes each. There was a pretty consistent pattern going there, so a lot of folks (myself included) thought it was go time.

I had these contractions for about 4 hours. And then...nothing. They just stopped. [livejournal.com profile] mightyafrodite stayed over to take me to the horse-spit-all. [livejournal.com profile] crwilley and [livejournal.com profile] dadandgirl took Malu to their house to spend the night there so that she wouldn't get scared from seeing me huffing and puffing ([livejournal.com profile] hoku_star wants to be in the room when Ky is born). All for naught. Still no baby.

Depressed am I.

The triage nurse seems to think that the contractions was Ky turning himself around to the right position. Babies, if everything goes normally, will turn themselves so that not only are they head first, but they will also face the mom's tailbone. They slide out "easier" that way.

So, while the contractions didn't produce a baby, hopefully they did make some progress. I'm going to take [livejournal.com profile] elspethsheyna's advice in a bit and go for a little walk. My brother and I took Malu to the park yesterday...that may have been what sparked the contractions I had. She and [livejournal.com profile] hexslinger are also going to bring their exercise/birthing ball with them when they come over for the Torg game tomorrow for me to use.

*sigh*

Hopefully it won't be too much longer.

Go baby go baby go!

He'll pop on out eventually. Here's hoping your contractions are easy and the delivery quick.

Heya, it's definitely a step forward! Just an fyi, I don't know if they mentioned it at the hospital, true labor contractions don't last that long. The longest I've seen was about 2-2 and a half minutes, and that's including the pitocin induced contractions. I know it's hard to tell what's what when it's your first, and there are frequently a lot of "false starts" so just wanted to give ya that little tidbit if it happens again! Also, false labor is typically mostly pain just in the cervix area, whereas real labor is an all-over tightening. Hope this helps a bit.
*hugs*

Facing the right way is definitely a plus. "Back labor", when the baby is facing backwards, is teh suck.

GEEZ! I thought I'd be reading about the being in the hospital by this time. It just can't be too much longer! I hope he comes out soon! Well, not so soon, that you can't get to the hospital before he arrives.

They slide out "easier" that way.

If they slide out, then why do the women giving birth yell and have to push so hard?

The hard part is the head. The head doesn't slide. The rest of the baby slides. Usually.
