I hurted my little Sporkie...

I bought her a wheel to run on...like most rodents, they enjoy running. I lined it with fine sandpaper, which has two purposes:

1. It keeps their legs from falling thru the wheel slats. Hedgies have very fragile legs.


2. The sandpaper keeps her little nails filed.

Well, today, I noticed blood on her wheel, all along the middle when she runs. Either the sandpaper is too rough for her now, or she's been running too hard on her wheel.

I washed her feet, as much as she would let me before she became "Suicide Hedge" and jumped on the floor and scurried to ram a cat. She's walking okay, her feet don't appear to be swollen, and she wasn't overly passive or fussy when I held her.

Still, I'll be keeping an eye on her.

I'm already devoted to her, y'see. It doesn't take very long.

Have you Tried getting a sandpaper that is teh Most softest you can Get? I know there is Different Techtures of sandpaper Maybe you have to corse a Paper.

If You can't Trys using teh paper to sand something down with it so It gives a lil' wear in to it and won't be so hard on your pets feet. *S*

Yes do this. There's extra-fine sandpaper that feels really soft to touch but it sands very well. People use it to put the final sanding on wood and it makes the wood silky smooth.

I was using fine sandpaper, but I think she ran on her wheel so hard and so often that she ran her little feet raw.

Extra-fine grade. Will look. I still want to get a bucket wheel for her.

it's usually a flat, dull gray sandpaper.

darn it, all this talk of sandpapaer makes me want to refinish some furniture.
