I was asked tonight if I'd ever considered voiceover work. According to him, I have "wonderful diction," "speak at a nice pace" and that my voice "makes the listener want to hear more..."
People have told me the same thing, but I don't know where to start. I majored in Radio Broadcasting in college, and I thought that being in the third largest market there would be plenty of opportunities here in Chicago...but so far, no dice.
In Radio, it's rare that someone just starts in a big market. If you're pursuing a career in Radio, move to a small training market... Charleston, SC (where I live) is a great training ground, but it's not somewhere you want to stay... I'm working for next to nothing, 60 hour weeks, then taking my production home to work on as well...
You should get in at a smaller station/market and learn the real world business of radio while honing your audio skills in delivery and production...
Most important of all... Execute anyone who VOICETRACKS their "live" shift...

I'm still trying to process this.
