Ah, my tastes right now have been running towards folk, folk-rock, country, and, as always, bluegrass. That being said, here are my current favorites, and if you can find them, awesome! :D The links are to videos on YouTube.
This guy is sweet, charming, and has an earthiness and quirky kind of humor that I love. He's also a great song writer, but check out his covers of Townes Van Zandt songs, especially "Highway Kind". It's one of the most haunting songs I've ever heard. Plus I love his curly mop of hair, lol. He's so cute with it. :D
The band also goes by simply Robinella or RobinElla as well. I can't really explain why I like them so. Their songs are written well and they have a bit of a funky vibe to them. Not so much in "Man Over," which is a bit more traditional (it's their only video that I know of), but they are something great to listen to if you're out for a day drive. Love 'em.
Another great songwriter. Again, I can't really explain why I like her, but her music feels easy to connect to and it's almost like a soundtrack to life in general. And, yeah, "Good-Hearted Man" is just a great song. :D
I put these two together because Chris (it's pronounced 'thee-lee,' btw) was part of the band before he went off to do his own thing. I love Nickel Creek, and yeah, they're considered "newgrass," but they do a lot more than just traditional bluegrass songs. There's the haunting tale of the lighthouse and the loving ballad of "When You Come Back Down," juxtaposed against the angry, strange "When In Rome" and the funky, rhythmic instrumental "Smoothie Song". They have a song for every emotion, every occasion. And Chris, well, he's one of the greatest mandolin players in the world at the tender age of 27, so check out his stuff, too. And the other two members, Sean and Sara Watkins? Watch out for them, too, as they're doing solo stuff as well.
