sexyscholar: (My Babies)
You know, nothing can take the spirit right out of the Christmas season like Christmas.

On Friday, the kids and I headed up to Canada so they could have Christmas with their grandparents and cousins and such. We also got to see the newest member of the family, my sister-in-law's newest son, Jacob. He's a beautiful baby, but then, they're all gorgeous kids. Jacob makes 12 grandchildren for the family, and they love to see them coming. I got an MP3 player! (I did much rejoicing.) A great time was had, with only one injury. Kieran was making his way up the stairs and he slipped, hitting his mouth pretty good. Obviously, he was pretty pissed off then, but he's doing fine now.

Came back home Sunday and got things ready for Christmas in our own home. It was a slimmer Christmas, but the kids were thrilled nonetheless. With gifts from grandparents & aunts/uncles/cousins, and gifts from [livejournal.com profile] fmh & me, [livejournal.com profile] cyriael & her parents and Santa, they were pretty well swagged. We got the Scene It? game from Santa. Love it. Yes. Now I want the Harry Potter edition. You know. For the kids.

Christmas night, we had Malu's gingerbread house as part of our dessert. I will give a little background on the gingerbread house. She made it in her class last week, and was determined to save it until Christmas. So in the refrigerator it sat, for nearly a week. Malu brought it out last night, having heated it up first in the microwave.

On a tin foil plate. We're lucky we didn't blow up.

There were gumdrops on the roof of the house, so those got heated up as well. You ever had bakery fresh gumdrops? Well, I have. Mmm, chewy, molten sugary goodness. The icing was like sheetrock from having sat for so long, and the graham cracker walls were stale as all hell.

But dammit, my daughter made it with her own two hands (as opposed to someone else's two hands?), and we were going to eat that thing. Even if it killed us.

I hope you all had a blessed and happy holiday!

Finally, another grandkid picture was taken while we were up in Canada. Here's the whole brood, with my mother-in-law holding the newest member, Jacob.

(left to right: Taylor, Maria [w/Magna Doodle], Emily, Malu [Queen of the Night], Jacob, Karen [my mother-in-law], Evan, Emma, Elizabeth, Madison, Aidan, Hoku and Kieran)

Pretty soon, we're going to just have to sit them all outside on the street to take these.

baa.
