Maybe I fooled it by going after characters from books. It failed to guess:
Benjamin January (hero of an excellent series of detective novels)
Menolly (a character from Dragonriders of Pern)
Aerin (a character from The Hero and the Crown)

...although it had at least heard of the first two.
